-It's holiday season! -The news has no news -No clue as to what's really going on -Let us sing praise of the party! -If it's red, it's gotta be good -It's "I love you China!" time on CCTV!
The news starts the usual rote way, with three big nothing-burger stories about the Big Whopper. He replied to a letter. He attended a banquet. He gave a talk.
When motor mouth revs up, the nation listens. His words pour forth like hydropower, not only a symbol of volume and force, but providing power and light for the nation.
He’s the surge, he’s the flow, he’s the source, he’s the dam problem.
Testimonials to the power of the paramount one continue to roll in. These hardy souls, scorched by the hot air of His words and thoroughly soaked and drenched by the torrent of His inspiration, not only lived to tell it, but want to spread the word.
Nowhere is the wisdom of the paramount more clearly on display than Hong Kong where a thriving, cosmopolitan city has been reduced to an economically depressed appendage to the mainland, full of dull conformity.
Even so, CCTV had no trouble finding politicians to spout the party line, to thank the center for its “support” and to celebrate the Belt and Road.
Loyal, hardworking minorities have long been the bedrock of multiculturalism with Han Chinese characteristics. They are especially blessed by the munificence of the party and its stellar leadership. As a reward for assimilation with Han characteristics (you have to give up your culture and personal opinions but you can continue to wear the colorful clothes and big hats) these minority members are given a brush with greatness as the mysterious, enigmatic, Rasputin-like Wang Huning walks by!
Wow! Some of them even got the chance to hear the party’s leading ghostwriter speak about minority rights and to report back that the CCP leadership was not only good, but actually quite excellent.
This segment on science is mercifully light on the heavy-handed party speak, though oozing with nationalism that makes the South China Sea look like China’s backyard. China’s bold colonization plans for the moon are presented, followed by a report on the detection of black holes. (upon which no territorial claims have been put forward)
And then it’s back to politics again. A CCTV exclusive on World Leaders Talk!
Listen to the persuasive ideas of visiting Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad.
Speaking of human rights, China slammed the West at the UN Geneva, excoriating bad Western behavior and maltreatment of native peoples in centuries past. Which is a convoluted way of saying, no one has any right to criticize China (or its friends Syria, Russia, Iran, NK, etc) because everyone violates human rights. (except PRC)
Negative news about the West has the “soft touch” today in keeping with the jolly, cheerful holiday mood. Just a few searing scenes from Italy (which pulled out of the Belt and Road and therefore is ripe for humiliation and punishment) to demonstrate that the collective West is a screwed up place that treats illegal immigrants poorly (unlike China which, theoretically speaking, would handle it correctly, and presumably incarcerate illegal arrivals with Chinese characteristics if they were lucky enough to survive after sneaking through China’s ruthless chain of aggressive border defenses.
But let’s not end on a negative note with ugly scenes from abroad when there’s so much good news from China! Modesty aside, CCTV is proud to celebrate the beauty of the motherland to the treacly, sentimental, and self-referential tune of…
“I Love You China!”
(editor’s note)There is nothing in the postcard shots closing today’s program that reflect well on the CCP in any way, shape or form, despite the repeated efforts of state propaganda to put all Chinese accomplishments in a communist perspective. The best that China has to offer, as displayed below, built way before Marx and Mao were born by feudal ancestors in dynasties past. As for Buddhism, and other religions which once flourished in China, they are hard under the thumb of state authorities now.
